FINANCIAL AID POLICY

FINANCIAL AID

San Mateo County FC maintains a Financial Assistance fund to support players who may need financial aid due to low income or financial hardship. This fund is raised by the Sheriff's Activities League to support SMC FC and make the program affordable to all.

Financial Aid Applications

Financial Aid applications are due by June 15 (Fall Season) and December 15 (Spring Season). Financial Aid awards will not be guaranteed if the application is received after the due date. If a player joins the club after the due date for financial aid, they will have 10 days from their registration to complete an application.

To be eligible for financial assistance, all applicants agree to participate in team practices, games, and all other team activities. Players must maintain good academic standing (2.0 with no D's or F's) and good conduct on and off the field (report card and coach report are used). Players and families are expected to give back to their community and should be available to assist with volunteer duties as necessary.

If players are not in good academic standing, they are required to participate in the SAL free tutoring program or submit a form for our files stating they are receiving outside tutoring. Then they can continue to play. If players do not have good conduct on or off the field, they will be require to sign a contract and attending a mutually agreed upon SAL program that will address their issues. Players not fulfilling their academic or conduct commitment will be placed on a No Play List until they resume the commitment to tutoring or bring their grades or conduct to an acceptable level.

Parents are expected to complete 25 hours (12.5 per season) of documented community service per year with SAL or an outside agency. All families will be required to attend several mandatory workshops on nutrition, college programs, and other topics as part of their financial aid agreement. Falsifying of any forms will be grounds for immediate suspension from the program. Any awards granted are intended to cover only a portion of fees due. The family is expected to pay all remaining fees due to their team as outlined in the SMC FC Parent Contract.

All Financial Aid applicants must fill out the Financial Assistance Request Form ONLINE and provide all supporting documentation*. Each applicant is required to submit the following:

  1. The Financial Assistance Request Form (English/Spanish)
  2. Most recent Federal Tax Form 1040 Form (pages 1 and 2) and Schedule C (page 1) (if applicable) for both parents/guardians;
  3. Recent (last 2) copies of paystubs for all working adults in the household or a letter from your employer(s) on company letterhead stating your monthly gross income;
  4. Copy of most recent report card for each player applying (Not a progress report)
  5. Any other information that might help the Financial Operations Committee understand your need.

* Financial Aid requests that do not have all of the above forms attached will not be considered.

All applications must be completed online and all documentation must be submitted in the online application.

All data submitted is confidential and is only available to the Financial Operations Committee, SMC FC Treasurer and used solely to determine eligibility for financial assistance. Information will be retained for a year and then destroyed as policy. New applications must be submitted every season to be considered for financial aid. New financial information will need to be submitted every year in the Fall when applying for Financial Aid, but report cards and community service documentation are due each season to be considered.

Guest Playing Policy

No guest playing is allowed with other teams/clubs outside of SMC FC without written permission from the SMC FC Director of Coaching. Guest playing with other teams within SMC FC requires approval from the coaching staff.

No Play List

Players with outstanding balances at the payment deadlines will be placed on the No Play List. Players not fulfilling their academic or conduct commitment will also be placed on the No Play List until they resume the commitment to tutoring or bring their grades or conduct to an acceptable level.
